What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is more than just a form of therapy - it is a holistic approach that sees people as a unity of body, mind and soul. The aim of every treatment is to identify and resolve blockages, restore balance in the body and activate the body's natural self-healing powers. Gentle, manual techniques are used to address individual complaints in order to promote long-term well-being and sustainable recovery.

History of Osteopathy:

Osteopathy originated in the United States and was founded by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, who recognized the close connection between the structure and function of the body. His revolutionary approach changed traditional healthcare by looking at the body as a whole rather than just treating symptoms. Initially, osteopathy was viewed with skepticism, but gained increasing recognition due to its effectiveness in treating various ailments and its holistic, patient-centered philosophy.

Over time, osteopathy developed into a comprehensive practice that combines precise manual techniques with in-depth anatomical knowledge. Today, it is recognized worldwide and is an essential part of holistic medicine. By treating the causes of ailments and providing individually tailored therapies, osteopathy supports natural healing, restores balance, and promotes long-term well-being.

The three pillars of osteopathy

Osteopathy is based on three core areas that together form a comprehensive therapy. Each of these areas plays a unique role in the holistic treatment approach and contributes in its own way to the overall healing process. Together they help to restore balance and promote the body's natural healing abilities.

Craniosacral Osteopathy

Craniosacral osteopathy focuses on the central nervous system, using extremely gentle techniques to release tension and promote natural deep relaxation. The aim is to support the nervous system, optimize the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, and increase general well-being. By addressing the subtle rhythms of the body, this technique helps to restore balance and relieve restrictions in the nervous system.

Craniosacral therapy is particularly effective for stress-related conditions, chronic tension, headaches, and even emotional imbalances. It has a deeply calming effect and is beneficial for those seeking relief from both physical and emotional stress, contributing to improved mental clarity and overall health.

Visceral Osteopathy

Visceral osteopathy focuses on the internal organs and their interactions with the surrounding fascia, ligaments and muscles. It uses gentle, manual techniques to release tension and restrictions in the organs and connective tissue, improve circulation and restore natural movement. By applying targeted pressure, the efficiency of the organs is improved, discomfort is alleviated and general well-being is promoted.

This approach is particularly effective in treating dysfunctions such as digestive problems, respiratory problems and circulatory disorders. Conditions such as chronic bloating, constipation, heartburn and breathing difficulties can be relieved by visceral osteopathy. By improving organ function and relieving tension in the diaphragm and surrounding tissues, it supports the body's natural ability to heal and maintain balance, promoting better internal health and overall vitality.

Parietal Osteopathy

Parietal osteopathy focuses on the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, muscles and connective tissue. Using precise manual techniques, it is designed to reduce pain, relieve tension and improve mobility. This approach is particularly helpful in treating conditions such as back pain, joint problems, headaches and recovery from injury. The goal is to restore proper alignment, reduce muscle tension and increase flexibility, thereby improving overall mobility and function.

Parietal osteopathy is effective in treating chronic pain conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia by reducing inflammation and improving posture. It aids rehabilitation by speeding healing, preventing scar tissue and restoring movement patterns.
